We want to congratulate Dr. Subbarao Yarlagadda “Doc” on his retirement effective Dec 31, 2019 after 17 years proudly serving Helena.
In 1971, Doc came to this country with only $50 in his pocket to earn his Masters and Doctorate Degrees in Agronomy from Kansas State University. Upon graduation Doc moved to Shipshewana, Indiana where he began his work as an Agronomist for an independent Ag retailer.
Eventually Doc built his own Ag retail operation in Kimmel, Indiana until it was acquired by Helena in 2002. At that time, Doc came to Helena as a Sales Agronomist at the Kimmel location. In 2006, Doc accepted the position as National Agronomist moving to Collierville, TN.
Upon retirement Doc has plans to spend time with his family. He will also continue to be involved with what he calls his biggest lifetime achievement and passion where Doc and his family started a mission project in order to give back to the village in India where he and his wife Olga grew up.
His family’s mission project started by building a medical hospital along with a church in the very village where they were raised. Today they continue to operate by providing free cataract surgery, free dental, and free outpatient services to nearly 100 patients daily.
In Doc’s very words, “as a result of this great nation known as the USA this hospital was founded and is the result of American generosity and kindness, for that I am very grateful”.
