Dr. Subbarao and Olga Yarlagadda presented the vision for Menno-Clinic, India to the Emma Mennonite congregation in 1995. They desired to fulfill a dream to to help
improve the lives of those in their native India. Menno-Clinic, India is an affordable medical clinic in the village of Chiluvuru, Andhra Pradesh, India, the hometown of Olga. Olga donated the home and property she inherited from her family for the medical clinic. Another parcel of ground adjoining the property of the Yarlagadda’s was purchased for the eye clinic building.
Menno-Clinic is used primarily by the residents of Chiluvuru and surrounding areas. In January, 1997, a group visited Chiluvuru to meet with village elders and local faith leaders representing the community. They shared the vision of Menno-Clinic and sought to receive their approval and blessing for this Clinic to be built in their village. The plan was warmly received. Since then, the clinic has grown to include a second building for dental and eye care.
In the twenty years since the idea for the clinic first materialized, it has grown to serve a daily average of 40-50 clients in the medical clinic, 30-40 clients in the dental clinic, six days a week, and 8 cataract surgeries a week, one day a week. The clinic provides blood tests, pregnancy services, and HIV tests, along with a needed prescription medications. All medical services, including vision and dental care are provided at low-to-no cost to the patients.
